This Summer I've been a busy bee working on a new series of work I'm calling "in the sea", which is of course still all things nature related.
I'll be listing five new paintings from this series tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29th in the afternoon. Look out for them in the shop!

Before I forget, there is a new print up in the intheforest shop! The original is a birthday gift for one of my friends which I haven't officially given to yet...so Courtney if you are reading this don't look <3

A little here and there I've been scheming up a new project for all of my friends and family with cats (there are a lot!). Last December for the holidays I made catnip pizzas which were a hit...

For Summer I came up with watermelons & limes that will be completed and given out soon!

The summer update for the shop is getting close and I will be announcing that next...

Late last week the city of Somerville had their postponed 4th of July fireworks. I usually avoid the crowds from the Boston fireworks so it was fun to see any kind of fireworks from my own apartment window!
Beyond the trees I took some dreamy pictures...

rainy day love

Two days in a row of thunderstorms which I secretly love!

Even though going on outdoor Summer adventures is on the top of my list, here are some indoor things to love on a rainy day...

1. the basil plant that isn't quite ready yet but is starting to resemble real live basil!

2. leftover zing pizza from last night (augustus classicus)...anyone living around the Somerville/Boston area must try this pizza!

3. the back room to our apartment that is finally coming together. It houses mostly Dan's records and music equipment but also includes books and odds and ends left around from the move. here is a glimpse:

end of spring

The end of Spring involved indoor picnics, a birthday celebration, lots of painting, picture taking, tea drinking, dance nights out, and t.rex listening. Here are a few pictures to end out the season!

-for my boyfriend Dan's birthday celebration, I made cupcakes (that a certain someone really wanted)!

indoor picnic on Memorial Day consisted of watermelon, grapes, pasta salad, tomato/cheddar/red onion/guacamole toasties, and more strawberry tea.

There are so many more pictures to go through, but for now, it's back to work and looking forward to the summer season!

Besides daydreaming about a garden/tea party in Paris with the ever so lovely Mathyld, I finally completed and listed the chinchilla painting! And a seriously perfect suggestion for the silvery colored frame. There was a little hesitation at first for the fear of it looking too grey, but now I can't imagine it being any other color. What would I do without these fantastic suggestions?!

The flowery patterned object in that picture is the most incredible vintage 7" record case that I borrowed from my boyfriend to use for picture taking.

In other news, my sweetest ever mom came up for a visit yesterday and made my day with uplifting chats and homemade date & nut muffins! And today I had one with strawberry jam...nom nom nom!

And of course a little office helper to get me through the day!

I'll have some new prints of the in the desert series along with the chinchilla in the shop soon!

This weekend I'm super excited to check out the SOWA open market for its opening weekend. Since it's running through October I might decide on getting a table this year. yay! I'll try to take pictures of some weekend adventures.

shades of grey

Obsessions of today include shades of black and grey, listening to t-rex (slider album), chinchillas, and iced coffee!

Thank you for all the wonderful desert themed ideas from the last post...a fennec fox is next on my list for that little series. But first I decided to paint my first chinchilla ever . I'll never forget a few years back seeing two little sandy-cream colored babes in the pet store and really, really wanted to take one home. However I was terrified my cat would devour it since she is an ultra hunter afterall.

The chinchilla progress so far:

Next I'll add some final coloring and touches and then try to decide what color the frame/edging should be painted. I'm thinking either antique gold or maybe a bright color?

cactus love

I'm finally back from a little blog hiatus!

The weather around here has been rather dreary and humid. Things seemed to shift from Winter to Summer so quickly and has me feeling like I'm living in a desert.

Which brings me to one of my newest obsessions...cacti & succulents! I've always had a little thing for house plants and have thankfully been pretty successful at keeping them alive. Then I decided to expand my collection from a couple of average plants, to a few more exotic-like ones. Currently in our living room sits a little palm tree (one of my dream plants), and a gathering of little cacti & succulents. It might be a strange thing to get excited about but they make me love my place even more.

All of the plant and cactus love combined with the too hot for Spring weather, had me wanting to do a little series called "in the desert". A little spin-off from my in the forest creations.

the last few days have been warm and almost spring-like which is making me the happiest ever!

this painting fits my mood rather well and is currently available in my shop...

This Spring I plan on making some new secret things to put in my shop that will involve woodsy related jewelry (which is totally new for me). Updates will come soon!

hedgehogs all around

After a delightful recommendation by Mathyld of encorepetite fame, I am pleased to introduce to you, my newest painting... In the past I have made numerous attempts to illustrate these creatures and I could never get an image I was pleased with. But I really like him! Officially up in my shop. Prints will be up soon as well.
I now have a greater appreciation for those who can create images of hedgehogs, and here are just a few...

1) "my lovely" hedgehog print by MarmeeCraft (her illustrations are incredible!)

To own a hedgehog would be my dream (besides owning a bunny & what I call a "teddy bear dog"...fox terrier maybe?), but I'm afraid my cat would do something awful to it. sigh...

The originals will most definitely be for sale as soon as I can find the perfect oval frames for them. I'm thinking a simple black or a fancy antique gold style would be a nice fit. These two paintings feel a little bit like sophisticated portraits even though they still have a cuteness to them and I cannot wait to do some more!
After painting this rabbit... I'm so addicted to anything in ovals or images enclosed in unique shapes and patterns...

valentine owl & things to adore

what my valentine surprised me with...this fantastic owl necklace that I had my eye on for a little while from ckuhwald who is the illustrator and also created by jewelry maker, birdqueen. They are a talented team and everything from the image, to the antique gold clasp, to the packaging are outstanding. I've been wearing my new owl ever since Saturday!

I have lots and lots of favorite things adding up on etsy (maybe one of my favorite features!), and here are a few necklaces I'm dying over at the moment...

pink grapefruit with sugar and a pink frosted donut that my boyfriend brought home for me! I have only one heart shaped vintage frame left and I can't seem to narrow down what animal I want to paint for it. My list includes:

My weekend was rather low-key (i've got to stop with this hibernating in winter phase!).

And when Sunday came around, I was really happy to see that the very talented Melody from one of the cities I adore the most (London!) had featured my armadillo print in her treasury.

curious rabbit, skunk, and a golden bird

a little preview of what will be listed in my shop soon...

-a blue bird seated in the center of a warm golden toned background and placed in a vintage gold frame. he looks rather plump and really makes me think of those adorable sparrows & chickadees when they appear all puffed up and feathery.

-one curious grey rabbit with a deep red background and placed in a vintage white frame (and don't forget the white with pink polka-dotted ribbon which will also be included!)

-and my new favorite painting...a skunk! He is placed in the middle of a turquoise colored background and put in a vintage green frame. After reading Meredith's blog post on common pest's throughout the world, it made me think of the pesty but cute animals I've seen around. So here is a skunk! The furry feet are really my favorite part...

While working on the skunk, it also made me think of this gem from one top-notch artist at berkleyillustration that I've been admiring over at etsy for quite a while...

All of the illustrations are amazingly good and getting a print or two for my new place just needs to happen!

Just listed in my shop...

one fox in a special vintage heart-shaped frame, one brown bear with a sad little face (his face was accidentally painted looking glum, but somehow I really love it!), and one special raccoon with a face that I swear looks like:
Sir Didymus from one of my most favorite movies of all time...The Labyrinth!! There is something about him riding the real life dog in the movie that really kills me. <3Does anyone else see the resemblance maybe?

I think tonight I must watch the movie after making a fantastic wintery soup!

sunshine in winter

Even though it is beyond cold and wintery here in Boston and I feel like hibernating, good things are happening!

Today my golden framed brown bear was featured on the front page of etsy!

And...I have officially sold my first item there too! Selling my art work around various places for many years has been fun but there is something about starting out fresh somewhere and introducing new work in a new way that is so completely refreshing. Not to mention selling to a fellow etsy artist makes it a little more heartwarming too! So thank you to Sara at piperandrory. I'm loving her hand-painted wooden bracelets.

It's been dark here for a few hours now, however the sun was out and my cat was in her favorite spot today...

little things in woods

I'm so happy to show off my new little creations! These little framed paintings contain the sweetest woodland critters and forest findings. When I hung them all up together my heart kind of melted and I almost thought about keeping them to myself. But all of these painted wall hangings will be available individually in my shop this Monday afternoon, January 26th!

The pretty colored ribbon for each piece will be included for hanging and displaying!

Top secret projects are so much fun...

I've been thinking a lot about adding something fun and a little different to my shop.

Moving back to the city in September made me uncover a few things taken from mom's craft room (she seriously has TONS of little crafty things from mostly the 80's just collecting dust). Actually I have taken things here and there over the years but never found the perfect use for some of these little gems. Until now!

gems & jewels

Typically when I find a a necklace or a ring that I'm totally in love with, I wear it over and over throughout at least a year. Last year I found a black medallion necklace with golden trim. Kind of the perfect mix of vintage and modern with a dash of darkness that I like.

The first time I wore that necklace was at my friend Joey's fancy dinner party he hosted at his place last winter. At the dinner party with his cat, Pyewacket:

After the dinner party, Joey borrowed it for a few months and shared its love. In a year's time it was lost and found a few times, traveled to many celebrations, new wave dance nights, parties, and into the hottest of summer days and cold snowy nights. My last love of a necklace is so tarnished and worn in now but I still obsess over it just as much.

This past week I disovered my newest obsession that I feel the need to have. And I knew right away that when Joey saw these little gems, he would need one too.

Unearthen has an overly dreamy website featuring these amazing necklaces made from crystals placed in an empty bullet casing. The magical properties and features of each crystal is described next to each. I wouldn't know which one to pick, however I'm dreaming of owning any of them...
